My code name is “Winging It” because that is how I create relationships, life and artwork. I very seldom have a plan, and when I do, I have no idea how I am going to get there. There is a freedom in “not knowing” because then there are no rules that I have to follow.
MY first piece of artwork was in 2004. Prior to that I was busy raising four boys. Finally, some time for me…but still no money…hmmm. Aha, found object artwork…a dream come true!
I am definitely a “self taught” artist. I find that I do my best when I am surrounded by “thought provoking junk.”
My earlier work was heavy mosaic style work. Lots of found pieces, silicon glue and grout. My art was heavy and hard to move from place to place. Okay…adjust. I moved into creating things with bottle caps. Life sized dresses created on mannequins. Very fun, and allowed a lot of meditation time.
I fell in love with texture, any kind of texture. Fabric, paper collage, watercolors, acrylic, assorted ephemera. The more mediums I could put in one piece, the happier I was.
So now, eleven years later, I find myself in my studio every chance I get. Cooking and cleaning have been pushed aside with playtime being the most important. I am teaching a mixed media class through Arts Benicia. That has given me the opportunity to share my experiences with others and learn more about myself…not always easy either.
I love spending time with other women artist. I find them juicy and full of inspiration. My life is fuller than I ever could have imagined…and I love to play with others!!!
